2024 WHI Revisited

HRT from Tahlequah Drug

We need to safely and effectively re-establish reasonable hormone functions in women. In 1800 the average life expectancy of women was 37 years. We weren’t expected to live through menopause. Nowadays women can spend 1/3 of their life in menopause.

Hormones are safe …… we are overfocused on exceptions and perceived risks.

The 2004 Women’s Health Initiative Study had two wings of study. Women who took only estrogen and women who took estrogen and a progestin*. The estrogen/progestin wing showed an increase in breast cancer & heart disease and was stopped early. However this year the estrogen only arm (10,700 women) was completed. They saw

28% decrease in breast cancer

42% decrease in cardiovascular heart disease

41% decrease in colorectal cancer

27% decrease in death

22% increase in venous thromboembolism (this is due to

the estrogen being in an oral form which caused

clotting issues in the liver)

*The body is extremely precise in how it utilizes substances. Adding an ester group to the hormone progesterone made a big difference in how the body perceived it. In the WHI women were given medroxyprogesterone (synthetic) not the natural progesterone the body makes. We now know that synthetic progestins caused breast cancer, not estrogen.
